In Moldova, the specialized medical services of organs transplantation will be provided starting from 2009 by the Agency of Transplantation. To this effect, the government approved the establishment of this institution.

The Agency aims at insuring the realization of the national policies and programmes of transplantation of organs, tissues and human cells, which will insure the patients an equal access to these specialized performed services, Health Minister Larisa Catrinici has said.

At the moment, the Moldovan citizens more and more often appeal to the services of the organs transplantation in the medical institutions from abroad, the minister said. Thus, the insufficiency of these medical services has created conditions that promote the exodus of the persons participating at the illicit human traffic.

The Agency will authorize the medico-sanitary institutions activating in drawing and transplanting organs, tissues and human cells, as well as the banks of tissues and cells.

Thus, if the Agency activates efficiently, annually, over 20 patients will be able to undergo a renal transplantation. They also plan to realize liver and heart transplantations.

Currently, Moldova is doing surgeries of transplantation of the kidneys, the eye retina, dermatological and of traumatological character, Catrinici said. For the creation of the Agency of Transplantation 1.31 million lei ($1, 26 million) are planned.
