Political Carrier Political activism commenced from school days. In 1971 during the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) insurrection was incarcerated on trumped up charges of political agitation, even though not a member of JVP. Acquitted and discharged from prison in 1972. 1978 Employed in Government Service - selected by Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to participate in the World Youth Council Conference held in Havana, Cuba. Refused leave to attend the Conference for political reasons. Resigned from the Government service and dedicated entirely for Party work

1989 Nominated by SLFP to contest Polonnaruwa Electorate for Parliamentary Elections, and elected with a large majority, and continue been a Member of Parliament uninterrupted upto date.

Social and Cultural Activities.

Welfare of Farming Community- Commenced several welfare organizations to the school children in Polonnaruwa Electorate. Special Interests Agriculture, horticulture, irrigation, sports, music.

Sports President, Polonnaruwa Cricket Association. President Aqatic Sports Club of Sri Lanka .
